Restaurants we like…

At a walking distance…

1) Restaurant Plattenalm (www.plattenalm.at)
During daytime this restaurant is a self-service restaurant but in the evening you are being served. It’s a 5 minute walk from The Hideout. Decent food for a decent rate. We can recommend the meat fondue for which you need to make a reservation.

2) Restaurant Duxeralm (www.duxeralm-krimml.at)
A very busy place during lunch time and a good restaurant in the evening with traditional Austrian dishes. The restaurant is at 12-15 minutes walking distance from the Hideout. Since a few years there is a nice Almrauschbar just adjacent to the restaurant where you can have a few beers before your dinner. Reservations are recommended in high season weeks. In low season weeks the kitchen is likely to close around 1900-1930. To keep in mind.

3) Alpengasthof Filzstein (www.filzstein.at)
The restaurant of the hotel has a few additional tables available for non-hotel guests to have a good dinner. The restaurant is as 20-25 minutes walking distance but it’s worth the effort. We would recommend you to make a reservation.

Requiring a drive…

1) Finkau (www.finkau.at)
Yes it’s a drive of 15 to 20 minutes but it’s absolutely worth it. The road, the scenery, the menu, the wines make it a place to go to. If you are a fan of “Wild” this is a must go to. Our favourite the Gams Tartar. The children have a lot of things to do and lately the owner build an ice-skating rink. We recommend you to make a reservation.

2) Weinzeit (www.weinzeit.net)
A very small restaurant vinothek at the entrance of Königsleiten. 5-6 tables a menu with a limited number of dishes of great quality that change regularly. An fine selection of mainly Austrian wines. A reservation is a must and you might want to putt the restaurant on your list for next season as there are weeks which are fully booked months in advance.

3) Ursprung (www.hotel-ursprung.at)
In the higher part of Königsleiten. The hotel also has a restaurant for non-hotel guests. An attractive menu card with the traditional Austrian dishes and much more. Good quality price ratio and a place we like to go to. We have never been disappointed.

4) Gaspis Woodfired Grill (www.gaspis.at)
It takes you 15 minutes to drive to Gerlos. You will find the restaurant at the start of the Dorfbahn Gerlos. We love the spicy spareribs.

5) Milchbar (www.milchbar.at)
Once you are in Gerlos you might want to split your dinner in two. The Milchbar has one of the best if not the best Kaiserschmarren we have ever had. Good and friendly service and a menu with tasteful traditional Austrian dishes make it a place you can have dinner, lunch or just your desert.

On the ski slopes…

1) PröllerAlm (www.proelleralm.at)
Our favourite. Three generations of the Fasching family are running the place. It is a challenging slope to get there but very very much worth the effort. Also accessible by foot should you have people who are not skiing, but it’s not a walk in the park. Should you be interested to go by foot please call the PröllerAlm and they will give you the directions.
A great terrace when the weather is nice. In early season (Dec-Jan) keep in mind that the mountain is causing some shade starting 1400-1415.
Our preferred dish: Schlutzkrapfen.

2) Larmachalm (www.larmachalm.at)
Good restaurant aka “The Chicken Bar” and they serve the best Latte Macchiato. We recommend the roasted chicken.

3) Seppis’(www.seppis.cc)
Great terrace, good food (try the Filoncino pizza), often a good DJ and you will understand why you can find the phone number of some taxi companies elsewhere on our site.

4) Kreuzwiesenalm (www.kreuzwiesenalm.at)
A bit further away from Silberleiten but definitely worth the trip. Great terrace and good food make this a nice place to go to. Should you want to go there we do recommend you to leave a bit earlier in the morning as you have 9 lifts to catch in order to come home. Good skiers can stay there until 1400-1415 and still make the way back to Silberleiten on time.

There are many other good places to eat and because we don’t mention them here doesn’t mean that you cannot have a good meal, but with only a few days of holiday to enjoy you have to make choices…
